Simon Dyson all set to defend his title at the Irish Open
Simon Dyson, the winner of last year’s Irish Open, is ready to defend his title. The Irish Open starts from the 28th of June, 2012.
The event is going to take place at the Royal Portrush Golf Club. It is said to be the biggest event in the history of the European Tour. The four-day event has already been already sold out for three days i.e. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
One year ago, Simon Dyson won the cup. Dyson was 15-under and took the title with a difference of one stroke. On the final hole, Richard Green had to make a long putt but failed to do so.
Meanwhile, Simon Dyson made no mistake and took advantage of the Australian professional golfer’s bogey.
In the tournament, Scotland's Stephen Gallacher finished 3rd with a 12-under and the Austrian finished at the fourth position with an 11-under.
After the match, in an interview, the Englishman said, "Ireland is a place I really enjoy coming to but I have never really played well in this tournament." He also said that this is the best golf of his career.
The 34-year-old has an even bigger challenge now. This is going to be a new stage and certainly not an easy one for Dyson.
In the last year’s cup, Dyson played a confident and a dominating match. This year again, there will be high expectations from him.
He has high regard for the Links course and feels comfortable playing there. He had positive things to say about it.
“But I’ve got to admit, there was a bit of a smile when I heard it was coming to a links course here,” he added.
Nevertheless, the Royal Portrush is where Dyson is headed now. The event is likely to stage a tough battle as many big names are eyeing the title.
What is going to become of this tournament? Who would be on top of the leaderboard? Only time can tell.
However, for the moment it can be seen that Simon Dyson is very confident about his game and himself, and is going to put up a tough fight to defend his title.
