Simon Dyson and Tiger Woods in for a tough time at Kiawah Island
History will be made at the PGA Championship this year, as the top 103 players will be taking to the field at the Kiawah Island on Ocean Course.
Since the world rankings were introduced back in 1986, top hundred players have never participated in an event together. However, this year at the PGA Championship, the top hundred players will be eyeing the glory and this is the first time ever that such
an occurrence has taken place.
Simon Dyson and Tiger Woods will also be a part of that field when they tee off at Kiawah Island this Thursday. Dyson and Donaldson will find it tough out there, as it will be the toughest field ever to have featured in an event.
Dyson is currently the world number 42 and he has some great memories of this tournament. His best finish at a major came at the 2007 PGA Championship, when he finished sixth in the event.
Dyson is coming off from a decent run of form. He finished twenty-under at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
Donaldson has also had a decent run recently. His final round 64 in Akron helped the 36-year-old into a tie for 36th and a cheque for $62,500.
The winner at the Kiawah Island takes home a staggering $1.4 million but for Tiger Woods it would be the elusive 15th major that would be his target.
Tiger Woods is looking to over take over the record held by Jack Nicklaus for the most major wins. Jack has 18 and Tiger has 14 fourteen wins, although he is four majors behind but winning here will be a big step forward.
His recent performance has taken him up to number two in the world but Tiger is not happy. He feels 2012 will only be a productive year until and unless he wins at the Ocean Course.
“I have played in three major championships this year and I did not win any of them,” said Woods. “That's the goal. I was there at the US Open after two days and I was right there with a chance at the British Open”.
Tiger knows that things have improved drastically for him after the divorce but winning the major is the priority of every golfer and he wants to be named as the greatest ever, not one of the greats of the game.
He stated, “Things have progressed, but not winning a major championship does not feel very good”.
