Simon Dyson extends his lead through the halfway mark of KLM Open as Martin Kaymer slides
Simon Dyson continued with his commendable putting on the third day, when he was finally able to complete his second round holes on Saturday, September 10, with four-under, 66 at the 92nd edition of KLM Open.
The Englishman is now on top of the leaderboard, having an outright lead with an aggregate of nine-under, 131. First round co-leader Marcel Siem has now dropped to second slot, although he remained impressive on the third day, posting a three-under, 67.
Siem completed his last seven holes of the front nine today, stumbling on just one bogey to settle for an outright second for the moment.
Dyson carded six birdies after he set out to finish off his second round, dropping just two shots at the sunny Hilversumsche Golf Club, Netherlands and is all set to march all the way to the title to bag another title on the European Tour before the closing
of the season. Dyson has won six events on the tour so far and is also the current champion of the Irish Open.
“I am hitting the ball well and keeping it in play so we’ll see how it goes this afternoon,” said Dyson. “I am going to see if maybe someone will lend me their car so I can maybe get an hour’s sleep or something in before I have to go back out later on!”
The tournament was marred by unfavourable incidents right from the beginning when some miscreants damaged no less than four greens before the start of the first round. The round was further delayed when the rain returned to the course, flooding several greens
n fairways.
Reigning US Open champion Rory McIlroy also completed his second round with a decent five-under, 65 and is now settled for joint eighth along with Alexandre Kaleka, Richard Bland, Niclas Fasth, Anthony Kang, Richie Ramsay, and Oscar Floren. McIlroy carded
six birdies in all and dropped one shot at par-four, 9th.
Defending champion Martin Kaymer, who fell for dreadful double-bogeys on the front nine yesterday, was finally able to bring some sense to his whirlwind downslide, pulling in four birdies and dropping just one shot on the back nine today, he is now three-over,
143 for the moment and will be needing a bit of luck to survive the halfway cut.
