Simon Dyson wins the Irish Open
Simon Dyson smashed a score of 15-under-par in the four-day session of Irish Open to lift the trophy. The Englishman banked on €1,500,000 worth of prize money, which shot him to the Top 10 on the Race to Dubai Rankings.
The 33-year-old teed-off from the front with a slow start as he picked a single birdie against eight pars. Situation changed rapidly on the back, as the player birdied the opening two holes to set the pace. Dropping a shot at the 13th hole, the
player mapped his way to the closing holes on the back and marveled the crowd with two back-to-back birdies. He attempted for another birdie, but missed the chance, as the ball touched the lip of the cup and stopped a few inches away from it. He capped the
day with a 67.
“It's amazing - it really is. The golf I have played this week is probably the best I have ever played. I knew after that I could cut with the guys in the majors and I was thinking if I keep swinging it as I am I'm going to give myself chances,” said Dyson
while speaking to reporters.
Dyson has been in the right form since the start of the season. He finished in the Top 10 at the Open Championship and later grabbed the trophy at Killarney. After this win, the player will make his way to the Firestone Country Club, where he will compete
with the Top 50 golfers of the world in the Bridgestone Invitational Championship.
This is Dyson’s fifth win on the European Tour out of 319 events, which has pushed him into the Top 50 on Official World Golf Rankings.
Richard Green finished a stroke behind the player after his 60-feet-long putt rolled past the cup to stop ten feet away. The Aussie reeled five birdies in the day against two bogeys and saw his chance to win slip out of his hands.
Scot Stephen Gallacher finished with the help of 12-under-par. The player grabbed five birdies against two bogeys and wrapped the day with a 68.
