In case you've all forgotten this is Simon Jones doing what he does best

I think with all things being equal the England test match attack should be:

SP Jones

MJ Hoggard

R Sidebottom

A Flintoff

M Panesar

  1. Why not? They haven't got that much to choose from if you can believe what you read.

  2. I agree with you. I would like to see him back into international cricket as quick as possible. He is bowling better than Flintoff (and batting better too), i would rather have him in the side than flintoff.

  3. no

  4. h**l, no!!!!

Now, I'm not knocking Simon Jones: I'm a big fan of his (although KooKee is a much, much bigger fan, and I'm sure he'll give you a several hundred word essay regarding the Welshman.

But, as Graham Gooch once memorably said about Michael Atherton following his first Test century (151 against New Zealand in 1990): 'One swallow doesn't make a summer'

Jones taking a five-for should mean that he is under consideration for Worcestershire's next match.

Talk of him being selected again for England are far too premature. This is a man who has not played any regular cricket since August 2005. Let's see if he can actually get through the whole season unscathed before talking about a return to international cricket.

  5. I agree with The Oracle. It's far to soon for Simon Jones to be considered for a test recall. 5 for 32 is incredible but he needs to produce those kinds of results for the entire season with form and consistency and have a season free from injury.  If he can do that then I think he'll be in contention for the England games next year and possibly the Ashes, but not before then.

And let's not forget that it's not that long ago that he started to play regularly again so rushing him back would be irresponsible and dangerous. It would be like what happened with Flintoff when he returned from injury and re-injured himself over and over again.

Players should be given a proper amount of time to recover regardless of the governing body's and fans desire to see a player back in the team.

  6. I have little knowledge of English Team selection.  I know who he is and that his Father  played too.

So I just wish him Luck.

  7. Simon Jones is very good bowler and with Flintoff still injured

and recovering, England badly need a bowler and the best who

may fit this place is him. Even when Flintoff comes back, Jones

is still needed in the attack. I am not sure about Panesar in the

line up, he is a decent bowler - but given that Saqlain Mushtaq is

    available he should be selected.

Simon Jones needs to play few county matches and he needs

    to get his rhythm.

I would like to see the bowlers selected for England:

    Simon Jones

    Sidebottom

    Hoggard

    Flintoff

    Saqlain Mushtaq

  8. well firstly, bloody good on him! even as an aussie i'll admit i have always liked him as a bowler and as ive said before, he was englands best bowler in the 2005 ashes (yes better then Flintoff was for my mind) and would thoughly deserve to be playing for england.....soon

at the moment he has had one very good performance but he needs to back that up with afew more good ones and also be given time to get back into a good rhythm and make sure he is over any injuries and is back to full fitness, once he has proven himself again then i would look forward to seeing him play test cricket again (altho not againist australia! lol)

but not just yet, its still just a bit to soon
