Yep Simon Jones has been picked for the 30 man squad for the Champions Trophy in Pakistan for later this year!. As you can imagine i am very happy about this.

Do you think Jones is ready to come back into the England side, after a year in County Cricket?

Do you think Jones is one serious injury away from retiring from international cricket?

Do you think Jones will soon be picked for the test side too in the near future?

AND

Do you think Jones will ever re-capture his 2005 form?

BBSJ!

  1. He's been playing great for Worcestershire and has been rejuvenated by being there so an England recall is well deserved. I think if he stays injury free then there is no reason why he can't be a serious contender for a test place in the future. He does an awful lot with the ball and brings so much to the dynamics of the team. I hope he does recapture his form of 2005 but it will be difficult.

However I don't think he should be rushed into anything (such as Test cricket) as another injury will definitely end any hope of furthering his international career. A champions trophy call-up would be a good indicator of how he holds up and performs under the rigor and strain of being in international cricket. It's a lot more hard work and vastly different than being in county cricket as his body will be under a lot more stress and strain. I guess only time will tell how he holds up but if he is chosen and does perform well then I expect to see him back in all forms of the game.

Either way, it's good he's still being thought of by the selectors.

  2. i think he will not in final 14 or 16..

  3. I think its great that such a quality bowler is again in the England set up. I was disappointed he is not in the reckoning for the tests as he has shown he can perform under pressure in the Ashes, and with our batting so frail we will be relying on the bowlers to give us any real hope.

I think he is made of stern suff and would only retire if there was no hope for him, physically.

I do think he will get back to his best, he is looking good in the County stuff, and bowls a good mix of hard to play balls.

I would have liked to see Freddie in the test side as well, bit risky maybe , but still a class act and can turn games single handed, which apart from KP on a good day, no one else in the current side is likely to do.

  4. Happy for you & him KooKee, and hope he will break into the England side real soon

  5. A 30 man squad is a long way from the playing 11.

Is this a desperate cry after the thrashing from the Kiwis ?

  6. I think he is ready to come back as you can see from his form with the ball atm. i think he would rather take his chances of getting into the international side and getting injured and retiring at 32 than plodding along in county cricket and retiring at 35. he will only get picked into the test side if one of the current bowlers underperform vs SA and then Flintoff underperforms when he replaces them. i think he is currently very close to re-capturing his 2005 form

  7. Oh..great! He brings alot to the team & I believe he's their no. 1 bowler when at his best. I hope he recaptures the form he was in 2005 & whoa.. did he made a remarkable impact then with his reverse swing. He was being tipped the next "Sultan" of Swing even though he's not a Pakistani..lol, what bigger can be said about the man whose talent was so deadly to actually be able to wreck havoc on the strong Aussie line up in 2005 (the best) version of ASHES!!

  8. i dont think he can reproduce that form

  9. yay!

Yes! hes hit his form higher than Freddy has and has done alot better bowling wise - the 5 wicket takings in recent matches says it all

its one of those you never know things. hes either going to get injured that itll force him to retire or get injured and he may still play or not get injured at all - you never know

Yes. well actually it depends, we all want to see him go back to his old form and he has done well in the lv matches but that may not happen too soon. Champions Trophy first and then well see. But i hope he does make the test squad by the 2009 ashes

Yes, hes not there yet but he will do it! got to stay positive!

    Come On Simon Jones !!

  10. well i dont think he will make the final squad but its bloody good to see him back, as ive said before, in the 2005 ashes i reckon he was englands best bowler and god he did us alot of damage (does anyone else remeber that inswinger that got Clarke bowled while not offering a shot, i bloody remember how far the swung and i bet Pup still has nightmares about it!!)

i think he might be 2 major injuries away from giving it up, but since i like watching him bowl i hope it doesnt happen and i also think he could do with a little more time in the county game, dont rush him back for the South Africa series, just make sure you have him right for the Ashes, the same with Freddie Flintoff, cos a side with those two in them worries me a h**l of a lot more than a side without them, Jones is a bloody good bowler and Fred just brings to much to the side, if england have those 2 its gonna be bloody hard to defend the ashes

FINALLY (geez Kook you ask alot dont ya lol) i think its to early yet to say if he can recapture his best form, i tell you what tho, if he does theres gonna be alot of sides out there with a heck of a problem!

  11. happy to hear this news, I'm a big fan of SJ.  As i haven't seen him play lately I couldn't comment on your question but very glad that he is back and hope that he stay injury free from now on, he shown great skills in 2005 hope he can extend that talent.

  12. even though if he finds form..he can play well in pak..because its flat track...bowler wont able be get anything in the pitch...

  13. Jones and Freddy where my fave English bowlers and both got injured

i hope they both can recapture pre injury form
