  1. Every player who was dropped / injured while playing for the English team needs to be given a chance to regain his place ...

    Simon Jones is no exception!

  2. I don't know, but KooKee wil be devestated if he doesn't!

  3. Simon Jones is best unlucky player so far.

so we must wish him best of luck.

  4. Of course he 'deserves' the chance! It is not as though he was dropped for playing badly: he was injured, for crying out loud!

Jones is in my opinion one of our finest fast bowlers (along with Flintoff). A fully fit Simon Jones would be a boon to any side, and England would welcome him with open arms.

However, he needs to be fit, and to have regained form.

I have serious doubts over whether this will ever happen. Sadly, I think his days are numbered.

I sincerely hope I am wrong, and Jones regains his fitness, and bounces back to lead England's attack in next summer's Ashes

And I am sure KooKee will give you chapter and verse as to why Simon Jones should play for England again.

  5. he first have to remain fit

  6. Yeah he deserves his place

Jones was never dropped from the England side, infact he was in the form of his life when he got injured. At the time Jones was in the Top 3 bowlers in the world.

It seems like Jones has been forgotten about though!, he lost his central contract in 2007, and since then his name never gets mentioned when people are talking about England's bowling options.

To get back into the England side Jones needs to proves his fitness, he needs to play a full season of County Cricket without getting injured, he also needs to take wickets and bowl with good pace in his county cricket tenure.

If Jones is fully fit, and bowling well then of course get him in the side, i have said it once and i will say it again. Jones has the potential to be the best England bowler since Bob Willis. He has it all, conventional swing, reverse swing, 90MPH pace, accuracy and the ability to bowl in long-spells. Also he is only 29 meaning that he is not past his best, and maybe his best is yet to come. If Jones gets another major injury then i'm afraid his England career is over, but if he has a good year in County Cricket, i really think he has a chance of playing in the 2009 Ashes series.

It's so sad to see such a great player only playing 18 test matches!!

  7. I read an interesting article in the newspaper the other day (it was either in The Sun or The Mirror, I forget which) and they spoke to Simon Jones and he basically said he was working towards getting back to full fitness so he could have another chance in the England team.

Whether of not he gets back to that standard is any ones guess and I think it's too soon to tell. But one think is for certain a fully fit Simon Jones would be a very good thing and an asset to any team. At full fitness he is not only fast and incredibly accurate, he's consistent and he would be great for England.

I think it's a case of whether or not he can produce at county level and get results and then take that step up to national level again. If he can do that then of course he should be in the team.

  8. Simon Jones rocks, it would be amazing for cricket in general if he is back playing for England 'and Wales' cricket team and he would bring in lots of crowds since he is Welsh and the first test is in Wales.

But apart from that Simon Jones is a good bowler and unless I am mistaken he held out bat in the 2005 Ashes. So he does deserve a spot!

  9. Simon Jones needs to play for England only if he is injury free.

I know he deserves to be selected and he has to prove his

    physical fitness.

  10. It depends what ‘deserve the chance’ means if it means walking back into the side after 3/4 matches like Flintoff then no. Jones has to prove his fitness and form in county cricket before getting a chance. He shouldn’t be (and won’t be) handed his place back solely on his past performances.

Jones injuries have given other players chances and he’s well down the order of England pace bowlers; Ryan Sidebottom, Stuart Broad, Andrew Flintoff, Matthew Hoggard, Jimmy Anderson and Chris Tremlett.

However it’s not all bad news, there was a report in the Telegraph of Simon Jones's performance in a FP Trophy match on Monday. Steve James, a former Glamorgan team-mate, wrote that SPJ had his old venom back which had been missing last season, it's great to hear this news. If he can have a good injury-free season with Worcestershire then tours of India and the West Indies aren’t out of the question.

  11. It would be very differcult for him to regain his place after so many injuries

  12. Yes, he's had a tough time, not of his own making, so should get another chance.

  13. did anyone see what he did to us aussies in 2005?! if he can get over his injuries and regain the form he had then than for sure he would deserve another chance

i put it to you this way, if he gets back to fitness and form, and england dont pick him, then Cricket Australia should bring him over to qualify to play for us! i wouldnt mind him showing up in the Aussie squad, if you dont want him i think we should take him! LOL

and for those of you thinking i'm softening my "Pom Bashing!" by talking up an englishmen, technically i'm not, since Jones is Welsh!! LOL
