Simon Katich backs Usman Khawaja to have a bright future – Cricket News Update
Discarded Australian batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Khawaja-c2729, to make a comeback to international cricket and thinks that the youngster has time on his side.
The 36-year-old Katich was performing exceptionally well for the Kangaroos in the longer version of the sport when he was controversially dropped from the Test team last year, after not being offered the central contract by Cricket Australia. Most of the
cricket analysts and former cricketers expressed that the axing of Katich was unfair.
The career of the left-handed opening batsman seems to be over because Australia is looking to build a team for the future, and Katich is in his late 30s. However, Katich feels that his teammate in Sheffield Shield cricket, Khawaja, is still young and should
have a long career ahead of him.
Khawaja made his Test debut last year against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, in which he has scored 263 runs at an average of 29.22.
Katich expressed that Khawaja is just 25 and he has plenty of time to establish himself at the highest stage of the game. He also feels that Khawaja has not done too badly in Test cricket because a youngster normally takes his time to settle down.
"Time is on his side, there's no doubt about that, and they have obviously given their reasons why they think he is out of the team but the start he had in Test cricket, he certainly didn't disgrace himself. He was consistently getting starts and it is tough
to adjust to a different level,” Katich expressed.
The out of favour cricketer further added that Khawaja has so far played in difficult conditions against some of the better teams of world cricket and there is no reason why Khawaja should be permanently ignored.
He added, “They were tough teams he was coming up against, like South Africa in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, but he's a very good young player and that will come to the fore once he gets himself settled and back out here playing some cricket."
