http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 (NSW) Captain, Simon Katich, has blamed his team’s middle-order batsmen for their 7-wicket loss at the hands of South Africa’s limited overs outfit, Cape Cobras, in a Champions League Twenty20 (T20) Group A match, staged at the M Chidambaram
Stadium Chennai, on September 24, 2011.
Katich, who led NSW to their first ever Champions League title win in 2009, slammed his team’s middle-order for not pursuing a brisk opening worth 65 off 8.1 overs, that was put up by the top order.
“We had a very good start, and were also helped by some pretty sloppy fielding from them (Cobras). But we didn't make the most of that and lost wickets regularly through the middle. We didn't get any substantial partnerships through the middle of the innings,”
Katich said.
The fixture began after NSW won the toss and opted to bat first, with the team’s openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Smith-c1313
to accompany Watson.
The newly formed pair managed to post another worthy sum for NSW, but failed to retain their stumps after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Peterson-c2332.
Much to his despair, Katich, who would have anticipated a competitive total for his side, saw a sudden crumble at his team’s middle-order. Consequently, by the close of the innings, his side was restricted to a moderate total of 135 for 8.
As for the team’s bowlers, the skipper did back his roster, stating that he was not disappointed with their performance.
“No, I am not really, because credit to (Herchelle) http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richard-Levi-c2315 up front, they put pressure on us during the powerplay overs. Defending 136 was always hard with the sort of start they got. Unfortunately, we weren't up to the mark,” Katich said.
NSW will now be going against the Caribbean side, Trinidad & Tobago, as both the teams gear up to battle it out in their upcoming match, scheduled to be played in Chennai, on September 28, 2011.
