Simon Katich finds support from former Australian cricketers
After getting his contract dismissed by Cricket Australia (CA), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SM-Katich-c2543 has been receiving continuous support from former Aussie cricket greats.
Cricket Australia recently announced the names of 25 lucky players who were rewarded contract for the next 12 months and the classy left-handed opener, Katich, was the most surprising exclusion from the list. Katich is also stunned by national selectors’
decision of throwing him away from international cricket.
Despite the divergence of opinions, the majority of cricket pundits have been raising their concerns over CA’s decision to jettison Katich. Earlier, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Jonathon-Slater-c76070 slammed the step taken by the authorities and termed it as ludicrous.
The former all-rounder, Bob Simmons, who served http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in 62 Tests, also joined that party and referred Katich’s removal as a shocking news.
"When you are regenerating a team you are looking for three or four players who are reliable and will do their job and you start with the opening batsmen. If you have two great opening batsmen you are on your way. In Simon's case he has proved himself and
been successful since returning," Simpson said.
Katich has represented Australia in 45 One Day Internationals (ODIs) in which he amassed 1324 runs at an average of 35.78. His record in Test cricket is even more impressive, as he holds an average of 45.03 in longer version of cricket.
The former Aussie opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Edward-Waugh-c74603, also expressed his reservations over the decision, saying that it is hard to figure out the reason behind such an illogical move by the governing body of cricket in the country.
I know he's 35, but who's to say he hasn't got a good 12 to 24 months left in him? It's a bit of a shock for sure. There are three guys over 35 in the top six: Mike Hussey, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 and Katich. Obviously that's got a lot to do with it and the selectors
don't want three players leaving at the same time," stated Waugh who holds over 16000 international runs under his belt.
Katich, who has no recourse against the controversial decision, is likely to announce his future roadmap in a few coming days.
