Simon Katich may face sanctions for his comments against Michael Clarke – Cricket News Update
With Australia’s top order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SM-Katich-c2543, slamming Michael Clarke as the main person behind his controversial axing from the national squad, Cricket Australia (CA) has now revealed that the estranged Aussie might be faced with sanctions for making
negative comments against the Skipper.
In today’s statement released by CA, the Board stated that it “emphatically refutes any suggestion that Michael Clarke influenced the independent selection panel’s recommendations for the 2011-12 CA contract players’ list. The suggestions made by Katich
are completely erroneous, inappropriate and unfair to Clarke, the selectors and to CA.”
At the same time, CA’s Chief Executive, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robert-John-Inverarity-c85980, announcing
that the selection opportunities are still open for Katich.
However, earlier this week, Katich sledged CA, but more importantly http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978, criticising the Aussie Captain for adding in much to his unexpected axing from the team, as well as for missing out on a contract extension with the side’s 2011 cricket season.
The top order batsman revealed that it was due to his rift with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 in 2009 which has now left Katich in such a position, and that he will never appear for the down under squad, until Clarke is in captaincy.
Katich’s omission from the team came as much of a shocker for many, but especially for the national side’s veteran batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746;
earning the second highest average as a batsman, after all-round star, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558.
As for now, Katich’s comeback on the team still stands in a balance, but with a full-time National Selector, Inverarity, on board CA, things might be seen turning in the player’s favour after the newly found official revealed that the doors for selection
will always be open for all deserving players, even for Katich.
“Selection is based on merit, you select on expectation of how that person is likely to perform and contribute to the team. At the same time you have to invest opportunity wisely,” said Inverarity.
