Simon Katich may make a surprise return
The Australian opening batsman Simon Katich has revealed that he may surprise one and all with a surprise return to the Ashes. Katich sustained an injury in the second match against England at Adelaide and was ruled out of the remainder of the series. However,
the injury seems to be improving quicker than expected and that has given hope to Katich of a return to his team.
Katich was happy at his recovery and he said that it would be interesting to see whether he is fit for any of the remaining matches or not. Although he said that there is rapid progress, he still suggested that he cannot give a certain time for his comeback
and full recovery.
Talking to the media he stated, “It’s hard to say when I will come back but it’s tracking quicker than we thought it would at this stage. But I can’t give any definite until I start running and see how it pulls up after that, and that may be in the not too
distant future.”
Katich also said that getting fit in time is one thing and then getting selected for the team is another. Katich is not certain whether he will be able to prove his fitness in time to the selectors or not but he said that it would be totally up to the selectors
whether he plays any remaining match or not.
He stated, “So I don’t know if I’ll be ready in time for the Sydney Test. And then it’s a decision for the selectors and the ball’s out of my court in that respect.”
Australia has won the Test match at Perth and Katich was replaced by the 22 year old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phillip-Hughes-c2185. Hughes was unable to impact the match as he was only able to score 12 runs in both his innings. The selection of Hughes was also
a surprise as the batsman was out of form and was unable to score much runs in the domestic season.
If fit in time, the selectors may go with Katich but it will depend on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 whether they would make a change or continue with the winning combination.
