Simon Katich not satisfied with NSW’s batting show despite victory – Cricket News update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 Blues, was not pleased with his team’s batting performance against Trinidad and Tobago despite their Super Over victory in last night’s game of Champions League T20 tournament, Group A.
In the post-match presentation ceremony, he expressed grave concerns over his batsmen’s slow run rate.
Talking to the media, he said, “We're disappointed to have left it too late today. But that's the nature of Twenty 20 cricket. The pressure is on the bowlers, it's not easy for them as well. But we've got to come up with a better batting effort through that
middle phase. If no one bats through (the innings) it's very difficult."
In yesterday’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-George-Burrows-c93472hriller, T & T won the toss and scored 139 for the loss of 6 wickets while batting first. Their run rate was 6.95 per over.
The NSW paid back with the same coin, levelling the score in the given 20-over quota after losing 8 wickets. In order to avert a tie, the umpires went for a Super Over which decided the match in Katich and company’s favour.
In the last moment victory, Katich contributed 23 runs off 21 balls with the help of 2 boundaries.
Along with censuring the batsmen, the skipper heaped praise on the last over protagonist spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harold-William-Stephenson-c61707 O’Keefe, for his excellent ending.
“O'Keefe had bowled beautifully for us and we just felt that the pace off the ball was the right option than one of the quicks. Yes, it can be looked at as a gamble but thankfully, it paid off,” said Simon.
NSW are currently ranked fourth on the points table of Group A as they have won only one game in the tournament so far.
The captain reiterated that they would turn up better in the upcoming matches and strive hard for moving up.
Katich, having been axed by the Australian selectors, has signed with his home team to play domestic seasons.
The veteran opener has 56 Test and 45 ODI games to his name and has represented NSW in a number of T20 matches.
