Simon Katich under Ashes injury cloud
Simon Katich is fighting to recover from a broken thumb in time for the Ashes, which are due to begin in just over a month’s time.
The Australia opener sustained the injury while playing in a warm-up match for the recently concluded Test series against India on the subcontinent, and played in some discomfort in the two Tests.
"It definitely hindered me during the first Test in Mohali," Katich told The Australian. "I felt like I was batting one-handed.”
"The specialist said there was no point having surgery because I'd be out for some time so we just have to see how it settles down," Katich said.
While the projected recovery time of three to six weeks means the 35-year-old should be fit in time for the first Test against England at the Gabba, it’s another injury concern Australia can ill afford as they seek to reclaim that precious urn.
The hosts are already sweating on the fitness of fast bowler Doug Bollinger, who sustained an abdominal injury during the opening Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and has been out of action since.
The good news for Australia, however, is that paceman Peter Siddle is making his long-awaited return from a back injury in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 – a series that will also mark the return of first choice wicketkeeper Brad Haddin from an elbow injury.
England too have injury concerns ahead of their bid to win the Ashes on enemy territory, with James Anderson continuing his recovery from a cracked rib sustained during a boxing bout at the team’s pre-Ashes camp in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Germany-c2904.
According to England team director Andy Flower, however, the swing bowler will be fit in time for the first Test, which gets underway on November 25th.
