Simon Mannering to be rested until game against Brisbane Broncos - Rugby League
Simon Mannering, the skipper for New Zealand Warriors, will rest his injured knee and is out of training camp today to grant him some rejuvenation time before the next National Rugby League (NRL) game against Brisbane Broncos, on Saturday, August 6, at the
Suncorp Stadium.
Warriors have already bagged four matches last month and have ambitions of extending their four-match winning streak further by marching out victorious from the Saturday night’s clash.
Within the NRL hierarchy, Warriors sit on the sixth spot with the total of twenty six points earned. This makes the Warriors two places ahead of the franchises the Newcastle Knights and the Wests Tigers. On the contrary, Broncos sits on fourth spot within
the NRL ladder.
By granting himself a break before the Saturday night’s clash, Mannering is convinced of being part of the clash against Broncos.
Mannering injured himself during the clash against Canberra, last weekend with a win of 29-10, marking it as their fourth in a row. Despite the knee injury he has been named in the final 18-man squad for Saturday night’s clash. Warriors’ coach, Ivan Cleary
has kept the squad same as the previous one with a minor amendment to the squad, with the inclusion of Lewis Brown on the 5-man bench squad, as an interchange.
This will be Brown’s first appearance after he was ousted from the field in lieu of an ankle injury he faced on July 8, against Gold Coast. He also missed the games Warriors had played against Canterbury-Bankstown, South Sydney and Canberra Raiders, in which
they were victorious.
Mannering mentioned about his knee injury that it was minor in nature as it was just a sprained ligament but his coach, Ivan Cleary is extra cautious about his medical condition and gave him a break so that he regains his form before the big match on weekend
against the Brisbane.
Warriors are inching closer to realise their dream of booking themselves a spot in the finals, for which they are exhibiting their best form and training hard too.
While commenting on his move of putting Mannering on rest, Cleary told that the Kiwi skipper will not participate in the trainings for today and there will be no definite decision made about him until Friday’s training session.
Commenting on his franchise, Cleary stated, “We've been able to pick up four important wins over the past month but going to Suncorp Stadium to face a side playing as well as the Broncos are presents a real step up. It's also another big occasion for Brisbane
with Darren Lockyer equalling the record for most NRL games.”
Lockyer will be marching into his 349th game of his career, on Saturday.
