Simon Santoso all set to rise and shine in 2012 London Olympics - Badminton Update
Indonesia’s Simon Santoso is fully charged to escort his country to glory in London Olympics as he vowed to fetch a medal in the mega event, set to be held from July 28, 2012.
It will be his first appearance in this esteemed badminton event and the World Number six shuttler is in high spirits to raise country’s flag as the first Men’s Singles campaigner of Indonesia.
Simon stated that he is fully prepared to shoulder his responsibility and hoped to bring a medal back home.
He said, “This is my first participation in the Olympic Games and I will be the first men’s single player. I have to be ready to bear the responsibility. I wish to win the medals no matter what it takes.”
Meanwhile, former World and Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat will be the second shuttler to represent Indonesia in Men’s Singles event.
At the moment, both compatriots are swinging arms and stretching legs in central training camp as their coaches are satisfied with their performance against sparring partners in these practice sessions.
Simon Santoso, who will also celebrate his 26th birthday during London Games, briefed about his training schedule and told that he has to go through extra practice sessions every day.
He looked determined to pocket maximum benefits of these two weeks before the mega event while commending his team-mates’ support in the camp.
He said, “The training is heavier. While usually it is up to three times in a day, now it is four to five times a day. My friends are all helping me.”
Moreover, he also declared that chief coach Li Mao’s departure will not have any effect on their Olympic preparations as they are on the right track under the supervision of national badminton gurus.
Simon said, “The program has continued without disruption under coaches Agus Dwi Santoso and Rony Agustinus.”
The badminton critics are declaring him Indonesia’s best bet in London as he is peaking at right time and has alarmed all the world beaters with his recent form.
Simon grabbed all the attention by claiming Indonesia Open GP Gold title last month. He has proved his class in prestigious team events, like 2012 Thomas Cup Finals and Axiata Cup.
