Simon Santoso beats Shon Wan Ho in Men’s Singles quarter-final of Australian Open GP Gold 2012
Indonesia’s Simon Santoso continued his dominating performance as he reserved his berth in Men’s Singles semi-final after beating Korea’s Shon Wan Ho in quarter-final clash at the Australian Open GP Gold 2012 on Friday, April 6, in Sydney.
The World Number 9 and third seed of Australian Open Santoso worked really hard to beat Wan Ho in a thrilling contest that entertained the huge crowd for 54 minutes.
The Indonesian started it well but became a little sluggish in the second game. However, he showed his brilliance in the deciding set and wrapped up the match in three games.
On the other hand, Wan Ho proved his worth by troubling his higher ranked Indonesian rival and stretching him to rubber games.
Wan Ho showed his impressive skills in first set when he matched the speed and perfection of his higher ranked rival and remained quite close on score board until the mid-game break.
However, Santoso employed his experience at this moment and remained successful in taking lead in the concluding phase of opening game.
The Indonesian won the opening game in a convincing manner with a 21-15 score on the board.
In the second game, Santoso played well in the opening rallies and remained equal to his Korean rival until 5-5.
At this point, Wan Ho geared up his speed while controlling the bird from all areas and managed to set up an 11-5 lead on the board.
After the break, Santoso changed his tactics and started to execute flat shots but failed to take any advantage as his lower ranked opponent was in full control this time.
The third seeded Indonesian failed to overpower his opponent in the second game and lost it with a one-sided 12-21 score on the board.
In the deciding game, both men played attacking and positive game until the score reached at 6-6 when Santoso took over the control and managed a reasonable gap until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Santoso stretched his lead by playing aggressive badminton and remained successful in taking the game with a crushing margin of 21-10.
Santoso won this Men’s Singles fight in 54 minutes with an entertaining margin of 21-15, 12-21 and 21-10.
