Simon Santoso crushes Shu Wada to ease into Men’s Singles second round: 2011 Japan Open Super Series
Indonesia’s second seed, Simon Santoso eased into the Men’s Singles second round after crushing Japan’s Shu Wada in the first-round fight of the 2011 Japan Open Super Series, in Japan, on September 21.
Santoso, who is currently placed at 17th position in world rankings of Men’s Singles, is looking forward to find his killing form back in the Japan Open. He opened his campaign successfully by taming local shuttler, Wada, in straight games by
taking 36 minutes in the court.
The higher ranked Indonesian tested all of his strokes in the opening points of the first round against Wada to get familiar with court conditions. He played without taking the pressure of being ranked higher and his positive approach in the court earned
him an easy win over the young Japanese.
Santoso took no time in reaching 11-7 in the opening half of the first game. His wonderful finishing touches put the Japanese in a state of helplessness, as the local shuttler had no answer to the perfect drives and powerful smashes of the higher ranked
opponent. The Indonesian finished-off the opening set with a convincing score of 21-14 in 19 minutes.
In the second set of this first round match, Wada tried to play fast badminton in the opening points but he failed to control the bird effectively and executed many wrong strokes which helped his rival to occupy the driving seat. Santoso started to move
Wada in every corner of the court and finished the rallies with wonderful down the line strokes. Until the interval, the Indonesian established a comfortable gap of 11-7.
After the break, Santoso remained fully focused to avoid unforced errors and progressed with wonderful pace. The local shuttler failed to produce finishing strokes and also made many unforced errors. Santoso ended the second set of this opening round contest
with the score of 21-14, by taking 17 minutes. This Men’s Singles match finished-off in straight games of 36 minutes, with a 21-14 and 21-14 score on the board.
