Simon Santoso makes his way to pre quarter-finals of 2013 Zealand Badminton Open
Indonesia’s prime shuttler Simon Santoso continued his impressive run in SKYCITY New Zealand Badminton Open and earned the right to be in pre quarter-final round on April 11, 2013.
The Men’s Singles expert thrashed Arief Ramadhan in second round by registering a favourable margin of 21-9 and 21-14.
This encounter lasted for 33 minutes and the Indonesian campaigner ruled the court from very stroke till the last one.
Simon laid foundation of his victory in first set of the match and served the notice of his dominance in second set.
On the other hand, the inexperienced Arief looked completely dazzled as he failed to pocket even a single match point and crashed out of the event in a disgraceful manner.
The battle heated up when Simon launched a series of power packed strokes and pushed his compatriot shuttler on back foot. He did not show mercy in next couple of rallies and doubled his total in no time.
Though, Arief made every effort to rise from the dust but he failed to hit the mark due to a below par performance.
He kept on making fatal mistakes and allowed the opposing shuttler to pile up a mountainous figure of 11.
Simon Santoso, who holds top spot in the tournament ranking, did not squander this opportunity and strengthened his grip over game.
He played impeccable badminton in latter part of the game and swept the table with an impressive score of 21-9.
The following game was also played in similar manner as the higher ranked Indonesian shuttler showed consistency in his performance.
This time Simon Santoso employed interesting tactics as he played with a cautious approach in the beginning and then showed aggressiveness in second half of the set.
Initially, Arief looked in a respectable position as he did not allow his rival to make a significant difference on points table.
However, few back-to-back mistakes in latter part of the game hit him hard and Simon Santoso managed to tip the scale in his favour.
He registered a winning margin of 21-14 and setup his next clash with Parinyawat Thongnuam in pre quarter-finals of New Zealand Badminton Open.
