Simon Santoso overwhelms Yun Lung Chan in Men’s Singles first round - Yonex Chinese Taipei Open
Simon Santoso, the top Indonesian shuttler in the Men’s Singles draw, overwhelmed Hong Kong’s Yun Lung Chan in the first round of the 2011 Yonex Chinese Taipei Open in Chinese Taipei, on Wednesday, September 7.
World Number 18, Simon Santoso, has been struggling hard to find good form for the last eight months as he failed to win any tournament this year. He also lost his top-10 rank as a result of the bad patch. He is one of the most stylish shuttlers of Indonesia
who has achieved the highest level of skills in badminton.
The fifth seed in the event, Simon played a good game in the opening match against the spirited Yun Lung and finished off the match in straight games with a decent margin by working hard for 37 minutes.
The Hong Kong shuttler played a good game but failed to maintain his form in the concluding phase of both sets as his experienced opponent played well in the end and won the match.
Santoso seemed struggling in the opening half of the first set as he made some unforced mistakes. His speed was also not impressive as his rival was playing a better game. However, towards the end of the first-half, the Indonesian lifted up his level of
play and remained successful in reaching at 11-9.
The fifth seed Indonesian tried to extend the gap but his opponent was also playing an attacking game and refused to give up. In the concluding phase, Simon played to his full potential and forced his challenger to make mistakes by playing fast and attacking
badminton. He managed to win the match by a margin of 21-18 in 19 minutes.
Both shuttlers again remained close in the first-half of the second game by playing aggressive badminton. However, Santoso employed his extensive experience to tackle the aggression of his opponent and won the second game with the same margin of 21-18, in
18 minutes. The Indonesian won the straight-set match in 37 minutes with the margin of 21-18 and 21-18.
