Simon Santoso stamps his supremacy over Du Pengyu to clinch Men’s Singles title at Indonesia Open
Simon Santoso proved that he is truly number one shuttler of Indonesia and is a commendable successor to Taufik Hidayat as he clinched Men’s Singles title after beating China’s Du Pengyu in the final showdown at the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2012
on Sunday, June 17, in Indonesia.
The seventh seeded Santoso, who has been playing tremendous game in the entire competition; finally won his first ever Premier Super Series title and it came in front of his home crowd.
The World Number 9 Santoso was impressive in his shot selection and game plan and he outmanoeuvred his opponent in a hard-fought three games with a wonderful margin on the board.
In the meanwhile, the lower ranked Pengyu could not continue his winning streak as he failed to overpower the aggressive Indonesia and eventually lost to him in three games after working hard for 79 minutes.
In the opening set, Santoso showed his impressive class by playing controlled badminton and he did not let his rival to play normal game at any stage.
Until the one-minute break, it was the higher ranked Indonesian who took a superb lead on the score board.
After the break, Santoso remained positive and composed in the court and managed to win the first game with a 21-18 margin on the board.
In the second set, the Chinese prevailed from the opening points as he played aggressive badminton and also took a wonderful lead until the break.
After the interval, Santoso played well and narrowed the gap but failed to tackle the aggression of his rival and lost the set with a 13-21 score on the board.
In the deciding game, both men showed their aggressive skills until 6-6 when Santoso found a wonderful flow and took five consecutive points to take 11-5 lead until the break.
After the interval, the Indonesian did not let Pengyu to catch up at any stage and wrapped up the final game with an incredible 21-11 margin on the board.
The Indonesian cheered the home fans by winning the title match in 79 minutes with a difference of 21-18, 13-21 and 21-11.
