Simon Santoso wants to perform well at the 2011 World Championships – Badminton news
Indonesia’s talented shuttler, Simon Santoso is confident to deliver a better performance at the 2011 World Championships, which will help him in fulfilling his target to get into the top-ten players in the Men’s Singles world rankings.
Santoso, who is World Number 16 at the moment, has been training under the supervision of Li Mao and he is completely satisfied with his preparation. He feels that his game has seen considerable improvement and the Indonesian is hopeful that his effort will
help him in performing well at the World Championships.
The main target of the Indonesian is to get into the top-10 positions in the world rankings by the end of this year, which will enhance his chances to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics. He has been working hard with his coach, Li Mao and has also learnt
many new things, which his style of play will display in the mega event.
Santoso said, “It’s a short time to see drastic changes but my game has improved since training under Li Mao. I am now more efficient on court and that is important to me. Sometimes, I get all disorganised on court. His training style suits me.”
While talking about his current ranking, Santoso said, “I am currently ranked 16th in the world but I want to get back into the top 10. It will put me in a more comfortable position as I bid to qualify for next year’s Olympic Games.”
The Indonesian knows that he has to play to his full potential to gain glory at international events. He said, “I have not really fulfilled my true potential. I know I can do better. Injury slowed me at one stage but I am free from injury now.”
The 26-year-old Santoso is looking to find some momentum by playing top-quality badminton at the World Championships, which will enhance his chances to get into the top shuttlers of the world. In the Men’s Singles draw at the 2011 World Championships, he
is placed in the same half in which World Number Two, Lin Dan of China will also contest.
