Simon Stadler overcomes Facundo Mena 6-4, 6-3
German senior, Simon Stadler, trounced the local professional, Facundo Mena, in the final qualifier of Copa Topper Challenger 2012. The senior jolted down his opponent in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, in total of one hour and 34 minutes
on the red clay courts of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The 29-year-old, Stadler, held his serve in the start of the opener and confidently drew the first blood but the scoreboard levelled down to 2-all in the fourth game. After that point, the local junior started to gain momentum
but he was never able to secure the lead and Stadler closed the initial set with a 6-4 lead.
In the second set, both the contenders were unable to maintain their initial serves but the German professional preserved his lead and stamped a 3-1 lead by cashing Mena’s serve in the fourth game. Although, the 20-year-old Argentinean
professional struggled hard to even out the scores like before but was unable to handle his senior’s pressure. Stadler took hold of the chance and closed the match with a 6-3 win.
Alan Kohen downs Federico Coria 6-2, 7-6(5)
Right-hander, Federico Coria, received a straight set defeat, 6-2, 7-6(5), at the hands of his compatriot, Alan Kohen, in the second qualifier at his home ground on the Buenos Aires Challenger 2012.
The 20-year-old, Coria commenced a sloppy start of the opener and was unable to seize his initial serve and Kohen grabbed the golden moment and marked a 3-0 lead by the end of the third game. This destroyed Coria’s confidence and
he was unable to respond favourably. Kohen pushed his way and terminated the set, stamping a 6-2 lead.
In the second set, both the players activated and dreadfully battled against one another to secure the final win. The score line witnessed several serve breaks and it squared down after every alternate game. The two finished the
set with a 6-6 score. The 19-year-old, Kohen, terminated the set at 7-6(5) after journeying through a tough tiebreaker round.
The right-hander, Coria, double faulted 10 times in the match with an average initial serve precision of 58 percent. He converted 16 of 39 first and eight of 28 second delivery point, capitalizing on six of 13 serve breaks and
his opponent secured eight. In comparison to that, Kohen secured 57 percent initial serve, bagging away 25 of 48 first and 16 of 36 second serve points
