Simon Taufel hopes ICC World Cup 2011 final would be remembered for quality of cricket
Australian umpire Simon Taufel has expressed hope that the final of the ICC World Cup 2011 between India and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 would be remembered for the quality of cricket.
Taufel said that he has been waiting to officiate the esteemed match for a long time and thanked god for giving him the opportunity. He also hoped that the grand finale of the mega event will be free of any sort of controversies.
“By the grace of god, I have got the opportunity. I want to thank people who are responsible for my selection for the final,” Taufel said while talking to the media just before the start of high-pressure game. “There is a lot riding on this
match. Hopefully, the players will do well, the crowd will have a good time and the umpiring takes a back stage.”
The 40-year-old Australian umpire, who has officiated 166 One Day Internationals so far, will be standing in his first World Cup final when the two Asian giants will clash at the Wankhede Stadium.
Taufel, one of the best umpires of international cricket, could not get the opportunity to officiate any World Cup final before as his home team, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 featured in the finals of the three previous events.
Simon Taufel made his debut in an ODI on 13 January, 1999 and has so far officiated 67 Tests, 166 ODIs and 22 Twenty20 Internationals.

“India-Pakistan clash is second nature to me now. There is tremendous pressure involved in the match. I am really impressed with the way players handled the expectations of billion people,” he said.
Taufel will be joined by Aleem Dar of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 as the second on-field umpire. Dar is also one of the elite panel umpires of the International Cricket Council and has been superb in the ongoing tournament.
