Simon Webster makes his return
Scotland international Simon Webster made his return to rugby over the weekend as he lined out for Watsonians against Stirling County.
The winger made an appearance in Watsonians 15-13 victory as a guest player in his attempt to regain his fitness and match practice. Webster has not played much rugby in 18 months after injuring his Achilles.
"It has been a bit frustrating for me," the Scotland winger told BBC Scotland.
"Unfortunately, it has kept me out of regular rugby for almost 18 months and I am eager to get back on the field. As you work down the list, they become more serious and evasive. One of the last things you can do is surgery, so I have had my surgery.”
The 29-year-old has had treatment in Sweden and London for the injury, which Webster has taken longer to recover from than expected.
"When you've been injured for a long time, fighting for fitness can be really tough, but once you get there you have the challenge of getting in the team and playing your best rugby," said Webster.
The Scotland international is likely to feature for the Scottish Division One side again before the Edinburgh coach Rob Moffat considers bringing the player back into the Edinburgh squad.
Webster said, "I am on my way back to rugby now and hopefully I can pick up where I left out a couple of years ago."
Webster is Edinburgh’s top try scorer in the Magners League competition and his side only narrowly beat Aironi 10-9 on Saturday.
The winger will hope to regain his place in the Edinburgh side before he attempts to win back his place in the Scottish team. It is unlikely that Webster will be called into Andy Robinson’s side for the Autumn internationals.
“Selection for Edinburgh is obviously Rob Moffat's decision, but I'm just happy I'm fit and available," said Webster.
