Simon Whitlock, a strong contender for the World Matchplay title, consistency might take him beyond Taylor!
The World Matchplay is hitting the world on July 21, as darts fans anticipate another darts showdown entertainment blast.
This year has been easily the best year for the sport of darts. It has been full of surprises and shockers, as legends have fallen victim to rookies and young blood has dominated the entire year.
It all started at the McCoy’s Premier League where the Australian Wizard Simon Whitlock destroyed Adrian Lewis and forced him to exit the Premier League.
It was in the headlines for numerous weeks and remains Whitlock’s best performance till date.
“The Wizard” later on secured his spot in the final and faced defeat at the hands of “The Power”. It was a chance for Whitlock to grab his first ever major victory but he failed.
Whitlock’s efforts were admirable and inspiring. He did not win the McCoy’s Premier League but earned the much deserved respect he sought for a long time.
The UK Open was the event where “The Wizard” could have marked his territory once again but he was thrashed by Terry Temple in the early rounds.
Whitlock praised Temple in golden words and appreciated him for his effort as a darts thrower.
“I knew Terry would be a very tough man to beat because I’ve played him before and seen him beat Adrian... I was feeling the nerves a bit because he was sitting on a double to make it 8-7 and I had to take out 101 to win the match,” said Whitlock, after
his defeat at the hands of Temple.
Temple was in great shape while facing “The Wizard” and had a firm grip at his craft throughout the game.
“Maybe I was a bit nervous but, to be honest, I was really up for it before the game and, after that, I was pleased with my game, aside from a couple of missed chances,” said Temple.
Whitlock has been surprising the world with his great wins but his lack of consistency has become a major threat to his career. If he keeps consistent with his form, he may rule the world of darts in no time.
