Simoncelli, Aoyama hoping for better results at upcoming Iveco TT Assen Grand Prix – MotoGP news
San Carlo Honda Gresini riders Marco Simoncelli and Hiroshi Aoyama head to the seventh MotoGP event, the Iveco TT Assen Grand Prix, Netherlands scheduled to be held on Saturday, June 25, 2011.
Simoncelli is determined to fight for better results. His teammate Hiroshi Aoyama will ride as a substitute for Dani Pedrosa at the Repsol Honda team.
The Italian rider has shown a lot potential in free practice sessions and has also scored a pole position in Catalan GP. Despite of a great performance and fast Honda RCV, unfortunately he has also three ‘did not finish’ statuses to his name this season.
With two fifth-place finishes and one sixth-place finish, Super Sic has not done well enough this season yet.
Simoncelli said, “I spent two or three days with my head down after Silverstone before I started to get over the disappointment. We are on the right path and we remain confident that the results will come. I like the Assen circuit even though I have to say
the old layout was more interesting.”
He further commented on the circuit as he likes the first section of the Assen track due to its twisty layout. He also expressed his liking for the previous layout of the circuit.
The Italian has spent few days to gather his confidence and put all the incidents behind him. He wants to start the seventh event with new phase of accomplishments and will resume his hard work as he has done in the past six events.
The Japanese rider at the Honda Gresini team, Hiroshi Aoyama has picked up a great opportunity to ride the Honda factory RC212V. It became possible due to Dani Pedrosa’s injury. Aoyama will ride in place of Dani Pedrosa as his rehabilitation process has
been delayed due to a second surgery.
Aoyama said, “I will most probably be contesting the Dutch TT at Assen on board a factory RC212V as part of the Repsol Honda Team. I would like to thank Team San Carlo Honda Gresini and HRC for offering me this great opportunity.”
Aoyama was also called in as Pedrosa’s substitute at the Silverstone event but denied the offer to stay with his team. Now with HRC’s help, he will be racing in Repsol Honda livery and his place in the Honda Gresini team will be filled by HRC test rider
Kousuke Akiyoshi.
