Simone Bolelli knocks out Martin Fischer in the first round – Wimbledon Championships 2011
World number 116 Simone Bolelli of Italy dumped world number 151 Martin Fischer of Austria in straight sets 7-5, 6-4, 6-4 in the opening round of Wimbledon Championships at the All England Club in London on Monday. It took the
Italian two hours and eighteen minutes to undo his opponent.
Fischer got the initial breakthrough as he broke Bolelli in the second game of the first set and held his serve in the next game taking a 3-0 lead. The Italian came back, breaking Fischer in the fifth game and holding his serve
in the next game to level the score at 3-3. Bolelli broke again in the eleventh game, serving out the set at 6-5.
The Italian fired 64 percent of the first serves and a couple of aces in the first set. Bolelli delivered fourteen winners and committed eight unforced errors in the opening set. The right-handed returned brilliantly as he claimed
44 percent of the receiving points in the first set. Bolelli was superb at the net as he won all the six net approach points. The Italian capitalised on two of the five break point opportunities he created on Fischer’s serve and saved two of the three break
points on his own serve in the opening set.
Bolelli and Fischer held their serve in the first four games of the second set and squared off the score at 2-2. The Italian broke his opponent in the fifth game and consolidated on it to take a 4-2 lead. Bolelli served out the
second  set at 5-4.
The Italian hit four aces and kept his first serve percentage at 63 percent, claiming 75 percent of the first service points in the second set. The 25-year-old hit sixteen winners and seven unforced errors in the second set. Bolelli
committed a single double fault and bagged 43 percent of the second service points. The Italian converted the only break point he received and saved all the four break points he faced in the second set.
Bolelli was looking to finish the match quickly as he broke the Austrian in the first game of the third set, taking a 1-0 lead. However, Fischer broke back immediately and levelled the score at 1-1. The Italian broke his opponent
again in the seventh game and this time he did not allow Fischer to break back, winning the set 6-4.
The six feet tall returned quiet well as he clinched 50 percent of the receiving points in the third set. The Budrio citizen won both break points he received on the Austrian’s serve and saved one of the two break points on his
own serve in the third set.
Bolelli will face fourteenth seed Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland in the second round.
