Simone Bolelli outclasses Amir Weintraub in final round qualifiers – PTT Thailand Open 2011
Seeded at number three in the qualifying draws of the PTT Thailand Open, Simone Bolelli of Italy went absolutely ballistic in the final round match to defeat the fifth seeded Amir Weintraub of Israel on Monday.
The contest was staged on the indoor hard courts of the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, with Bolelli winning in convincingly in straight sets 6-4, 6-2, to earn a place in the main draws of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals)
World Tour 250 tournament.
The third seeded Italian took one hour and twelve minutes of play to dispose of Weintraub from the qualifiers. His serve game was phenomenal, as he delivered 71 per cent of it on target to reel off 26 out of 35 first serve points
in the matchup. The Israeli opponent also clinched 26 out of 39 first serve points in the game but was outdone by four crushing serve breaks from Bolelli.
Weintraub fell on the back foot right from the opener, as the belligerent Italian broke in the third game to lead 3-1 early in the game. Bolelli adopted an aggressive strategy right from the beginning and launched frequent forays
to the net, converting juicy volleys into cross-court points with commanding accuracy.
Bolelli suffered the only serve break of the match in the sixth game, when Weintraub broke right back in business to level the scores at 3-3. The Italian kept his focus in the game and seized a second break point in the ninth game
to close out the first set at 6-4, to get one up in the contest.
The third seed was off to a flyer in the following set and nailed two straight serve breaks to race away to a 4-0 lead in no time. Bolelli clinched 11 out of 13 fist serve points in the second set and was equally good with his
return game to drive his opponent out of the competition with the utmost ease. Weintraub failed to craft a single break opportunity in the second set and had no option but to succumb to the hard hitting Italian at 2-6, letting him into the main draws of the
PTT Thailand Open.
