Simone Manuel seizes Women’s 100m freestyle gold – Junior Pan Pacific Championships
Simone Manuel of USA seized gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle on second day of the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on Friday, August 24.
Manuel showed no mercy to her opponents in the 100m sprint event as she paved her way to the finishing blockade for gold medal. She stayed in a comfortable lead over her closest challenger and ensured her place on top of the podium.
With her astonishing efforts, she remained half body length ahead of her toughest challenger and made her way to the wall for gold medal with a timing of 54.80 seconds.
Her title claiming effort remained 0.56 seconds faster from Ami Matsuo of Australia, who stepped on the podium for silver medal by producing a time of 55.36 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Cierra Runge of USA, who remained 0.07 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and touched the wall for bronze medal with a timing of 55.43 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the race was secured by Ellen O’Rourke of Australia, who remained only 0.17 seconds slower from overpowering the third position holder and settled on the wall with an effort of 55.60 seconds.
O’Rourke was chased by Victoria Chan of Canada, who stayed 0.76 seconds apart and tapped the wall for fifth position with a timing of 56.36 seconds.
Subsequently, Chan was followed by Mao Kawakami of Japan, who remained only 0.04 seconds slower and secured sixth position of the event by submitting a time of 56.40 seconds.
Seventh best spot of the race was obtained by Paige Kremer of Canada, who suffered a loss of 0.70 seconds from her former finisher and transpired on the finishing blockade with a timing of 57.10 seconds.
Kremer was traced by Rino Hosoda of Japan, who remained just one stroke away from her foregoing finisher and ended her swim in eighth best place by producing a time of 57.40 seconds.
In addition, Manuel was very excited with her gold finish in the 100m discipline and articulated her desire of achieving the same at forthcoming swimming events.
