  1. Here's a recipe that's similar to one that my mom uses, and that I like to use when I make cakes:

    BUTTERCREAM FROSTING

    1 lb. confectioners' sugar

    1/2 c. butter, softened

    1 tsp. vanilla extract

    3 tbsp. milk

    Food coloring (optional)

In large bowl, beat together sugar, butter, vanilla and milk until smooth. If necessary add more milk until frosting is spreading consistency. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring. Mix everything well.

Chocolate buttercream frosting - add 1/2 cup Hershey's cocoa.

  2. all it is is powered sugar, stick of butter cut in 1/2. 1tsp vanilla extract ,pinch of salt and 1/4 cup of milk. put all ingrediants in bowl. stir till creamy. may be a little thick so add a little milk to thin out.

  3. BUTTERCREAM FROSTING

    3/4 c. Crisco

    1/4 c. butter

    1 tsp. vanilla

    1 1/2 lb. 10x sugar

2 to 3 tbsp. milk depending on consistency desired

Cream together Crisco and butter. Add vanilla. Add 10x sugar - 2 cups at a time, alternating with 1 tablespoon milk until you achieve consistency desired.

  5. For buttercream, i use this recipe:

    50g of butter

    100g of sieved icing sugar

A few drops of flavouring/colouring if required.

    Method:

Cream the fat, gradually add the icing sugar and then cream together. Then add the flavouring or the colouring drop by drop.

Alternatively you can use glace icing which is a little lighter:

    100g sieved icing sugar

    1 tablespoon of warm water

Gradually add the water to the icing sugar drop by drop and stir until smooth. The more water you add the runnier it will be and vice versa.

Then add flavouring or colouring if required.

Hope i have helped and enjoy your cupcakes :)

  6. Having tried many over the years this is the one I come back to every time.  Don't let the Heavy Cream fool you, this is sooooo easy!!  I sometimes mix it up and use Almond Extrac instead of the vanilla, depending on the cake.
