Simple Electrical Work?

Question

So, I want to put Christmas lights in my locker that turn on when you open it. We where thinking of battery operated lights, but the question is how do you get it to turn on and off with the opening and closing of it. Any help would be GREATLY appriciated...

Go radioshack and ask for a ''lever switch'' so you can mount it in one of the inner walls of the locker, you can glue it with a hot silicon gun or superglue and so when the door closes, the contacts of the switch close the circuit.

You could just use a magnetic switch (like used for alarm systems). You put the magnet on the door, when the door closes the switch opens and turns out the lights! When you open the door the switch closes and turns on the lights.

Or use a push button switch that is normally on, when you close the door the switch is pushed in turning off the lights.

Either one would work but the little magnetic is easier to install.

Hi Holli:Since you want to use batteries, use LED's ( Light emitting diodes), low voltage,white or colors.To turn lights on when door opens,use a micro switch that has a lever attached. Door open,switch closes circuit.Door closed switch opens circuit. Mount switch on frame.When door closes,it must push lever on switch to open the circuit.A plunger type switch will work but when plunger in, switch contacts must be open.
