Simple Elegant Party Food?

I am hosting a masquerade ball in a couple of weeks for about 40 people. My budget is limited and I just need some simple ideas as to what kind of food I should serve.

At a party I went to recently it was pizza and chips, but I'm after something more elegant.

Simple finger foods would suffice...

  1. Crab cocktail dip(louis kemp imitation or real! It's red and a beautiful dip!

    Ingredients

    2 packages of cream cheese, softened

    1 jar of cocktail sauce

    2 can of crab meat, drained or 1 pk Louis Kemp shredded rab

    Directions

    Spread the cream cheese on a large plate. In a bowl, stir crab meat and cocktail sauce. Pour sauce over the cream cheese and garnish with sliced lemons. Serve with ritz or townhouse crackers.

    Lil Smokies cocktails

    2 (3 lb) packages Little Smokies sausages

    18 ounces grape jelly

      42 ounces barbecue sauce or your favorite chili sauce

    Directions

          Add all ingredients together in a crockpot, set on low either overnight or from early the day you wish to serve them.

    The longer they simmer, the better they taste.

    Everyone loves them and they don't last long.

    Smoked Turkey Roll-Ups Ingredients

    4 8-inch flour tortillas* (See Note #4)2 green onions minced

    8 Ounces cream cheese(or flavored) room temperature

    1/4 Cup roasted red peppers well drained and chopped fine

    12 Ounces SMOKED TURKEY BREAST SLICES or ham or beef etc

    Instructions for Smoked Turkey Roll-Ups

    Spread each tortilla with 2-ounces of cheese. Layer 3-ounces turkey slices atop cheese, overlapping turkey slices slightly to cover tortilla.

    Sprinkle with chopped green onion and red pepper. Roll up tortilla (roll tightly) jelly-roll style. Wrap each tightly in plastic wrap. Refrigerate several hours or overnight.

    To serve, trim edges and cut each turkey tortilla roll-up, crosswise, into 1/2-inch slices to form pinwheels. Arrange pinwheels on serving plate and garnish with red pepper slices in center.

    NOTE: To keep flour tortillas soft while preparing the turkey rolls, cover with a slightly damp cloth.

    Fruit salad

    1-7/8 (20 ounce) cans pineapple chunks, juice reserved

    3-3/4 apples, peeled and cored

    1-7/8 (21 ounce) cans peach pie filling

      3-3/4 bananas, peeled and diced

      5-1/2 kiwis

      3-3/4 cups strawberries

      In a small bowl, toss the chopped apples in reserved pineapple juice. Allow to sit for 5 to 10 minutes.

    In a large salad bowl, combine the peach pie filling and pineapple chunks.

    Remove apples from pineapple juice and add to pie filling and pineapple mixture. Add chopped bananas to reserved pineapple juice and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes.

    Peel and slice kiwi and 1/2 of strawberries. Chop the other 1/2 of strawberries and set aside.

    Remove bananas from pineapple juice and add to pie filling mixture. Add chopped strawberries; toss together.

    Arrange kiwi slices around the edge of the serving bowl and alternate with strawberry slices. Chill and serve.

    Fruit and fruit dip platter

    1 - 8 oz block of Philadelphia Cream Cheese, softened at room temperature.

    1 - large jar of Marshmallow cream

    Mix the two together.  Good served with strawberries and apples (toss apple wedges in some fresh squeezed lemon juice to prevent browning.)

    Nacho meatballs on platter with toothpicks

    2 eggs

    1/2 cup ketchup

    1 large onion, chopped

    2/3 cup crushed saltines

    1/2 cup mashed potato flakes

    1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

    1/4 teaspoon pepper

    2 pounds lean ground beef

    1 can (11 ounces) condensed nacho cheese soup, undiluted

      1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted

    1-1/3 cups water

    1 can (2.8 ounces) french-fried onions

    Directions:

    In a large bowl, combine the first seven ingredients. Crumble beef over mixture; mix well. Shape into 1-1/2-in. balls.

        Place meatballs on a greased rack in a shallow baking pan. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 1 hour, turning once; drain. Combine soups and water; pour over meatballs. Sprinkle with onions. Bake 30 minutes longer or until meat is no longer pink. Yield: 30 meatballs.

  2. Ask guests to bring a plate of food or drink and that will take the stress off you and you will be able to enjoy yourself with your guests things like sausage rolls, spring rolls, voulavaunts, a fruit platter

  6. If your'e looking for true elegance you can't go past cocktail frankfurts & tomato sauce.

  7. When I have a party I always make yum yum balls. It's the hit of the party all the time! My Uncle got the recipe and sells it in his shop now :). Here's The Recipe:

    Yum Yum Balls

    Ingredients:

    400 grams condensed milk (1 can)

    2 cups crushed plain biscuits (half packet)

    2 tablespoons cocoa

    1 cup coconut

    extra coconut

    Material:

    Bowl

    Mixing spoon

    2 plates

    Procedure:

    1. Put the 2 cups crushed biscuits into a bowl

    2. Now add the 1 cup coconut, 2 tablespoons cocoa and condensed milk

    3. Mix all of the ingredients together

    4. Pour some extra coconut on a plate

    5. Get some of the mixture with a spoon and roll into balls

    6. Roll the balls in the extra coconut

    7. Put them on a plate

    8. Leave in fridge for 30 mins or more

    9. EAT!!!!

    Note: You should put the mixture in the fridge for around 15 minutes before you make them into balls. That way, they won't squash or/flatten/melt while you are still rolling them.

    Another great recipe is chocolate mousse!

    Heavenly Chocolate Mousse

    INGREDIENTS

        * 224 g semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped

        * 120 ml water, divided

        * 30 g butter (no substitutes)

        * 3 egg yolks

        * 25 g sugar

        * 295 ml whipping cream, whipped

    DIRECTIONS

    1. In a microwave or double boiler, heat chocolate, 1/4 cup water and butter until the chocolate and butter are melted.

    2.Cool for 10 minutes. In a small heavy saucepan, whisk egg yolks, sugar and remaining water.

    3. Cook and stir over low heat until mixture reaches 160 degrees F, about 1-2 minutes.

    4. Remove from the heat; whisk in chocolate mixture.

    5. Set saucepan in ice and stir until cooled, about 5-10 minutes. Fold in whipped cream.

    6.Spoon into dessert dishes. Refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight.
