Question:

Simple Math Equations?

We're doing a quick little review sheet for homework tonight. The things is, I learned this so loong ago that it has all dissapeared from my mind. I can not figure out these equations and it's driving me crazy!

-15=3/4x

8(2x-3)=4(4x-8)

2/3x + 1/4x = 22

2/3x-1/4x=22

As you can see, most of them have fractions which just adds more confusion. Can someone please help me walk through these syep by step? Thanks.

  1. For the first one, I'd multiply both sides of the equation by 4 to get rid of the fractions:

    -60=3x

    Now divide both sides by 3 to get x by itself:

    -20=x

    For the second one, you have to distribute the term outside of parentheses to each term inside:

    16x-24=16x-32

    Subtract 16x from both sides

    -24=-32.

    No solution exists for this equation (there is no value of x that will ever make it true)

    For the third:

    First multiply every term by 3 to get rid of the first fraction:

    2x+3/4x=66

    Now multiply every term by 4 to get rid of the second fraction:

    8x+3x=264

    11x=264

    x=24

    For the fourth:

    First multiply every term by 3 to get rid of the first fraction:

    2x-3/4x=66

    Now multiply every term by 4 to get rid of the second fraction

    8x-3x=264

    5x=264

    x=264/5 or 52 4/5

  2. -15=3/4x

    ok

    first you have to get x alone

    since its a fraction. you want to make it 1. so

    multiply its reciprocal which is 4/3

    remember..what you do on one side..you have to do to the other

    so you get

    4/3(-15)= x

    simplify and you get -60/3 which is -20=x

    8(2x-3) = 4(4x-8)

    you have to distribute

    16x -24=16x-32

    8=0x meaning no solution

    2/3x + 1/4x=22

    you have to make a common denominator

    i think 12 would be the "least common denominator"

    so..8/12x + 3/12x=22

    1x=22

    x=22

    2/3x -1/4x = 22

    8/12 -3/12x=22

    5/12x= 22

    then you have to get x alone so you would multiply by 12/5 on both sides to get x=264/5

    hope i helped =D
