A snake is slithering toward you at 1.5 m/s.

If you start walking when it is 5.0m away,

how fast must you go in order that the snake not overtake you when you have gone 40.0m?

  2. You must move so that it is not in the same spot as you once it has traveled 45 meters from its starting point. It takes the snake 30 seconds to travel this 45-meter distance. Therefore, you must travel 40 meters in less than 30 seconds. You must therefore move at least  4/3 m/s to be even with the snake at 40 meters, and any speed faster than that to be out of its range at that distance.

  3. The snake has to go 5.0 + 40.0 m or 45m when you have done 40m.

    At 1.5 m/s it will take 45 / 1.5 or 30 seconds to get there.

    For you to arrive at the same time, you will need to go 40m in 30s or 40/30 m/s or 1.333 m/s.
