If speed=distance/time why can't I get a correct answer when I do

v=20 miles / 15 minutes

I used a calculator on the internet and they said the answer was 80 mph, can someone give me step by step instructions on how to do this, thanks

  1. 15 minutes is 1/4 hour

    20 / 1/4 = 20*4 = 80 mph

    .

  2. Sounds like you may be confusing your minutes and hours. If you want to find the speed in mph, you would have to phrase your equation in those terms.

    15 minutes = 0.25 hours (quarter of an hour)

    20 / 0.25 = 80mph

  3. you must change the things you have!

    v=20miles/15minutes

    v=20miles/0.25hour

    v=80miles/hour

    so it's not 80 mph, ok?! you haven't changed mile to meter! so do it right now!!!
