Simple Question.... Please Help?

Will an associates degree in International Relations, a B.A. in Economics, a Masters in Public Policy, and a Juris Doctorate, get me interviews--for high ranking positions-- within the Department of Commerce?

  1. The answer should be yes, definately. But today everything is based on experience. So..apply an see you may luck up and get it. Good Luck!!

Probably not for extremely senior positions because people who take those jobs have extensive work experience.  Do you know anyone at commerce who could recommend you like a professor or mentor for one of your schools?  If so, ask that person to help point you in the right direction and maybe make some introductions on your behalf.

    If you are like me, you are impatient to rise in the ranks, but remember employers always like to see experience (longer than internships) to demonstrate you are dependable.  You just need to get your foot in the door, and I am sure you will move up fast.  Consider scheduling an informational interview with someone at commerce (who is in a position that you could get or one higher) and get some information.  Also, be sure to post your resume on USAjobs.com and look for commerce posting elsewhere.  The government is notoriously slow unfortunately, but with enough tenacity you can get in.  Best of luck!
