    It has to do with math:

    Word with one syllable - 6 syllables

    Monosyllabic - 5 syllables

    6 syllables minus 5 syllables = 1 syllable

    Because it comes from the word phonetics and that word comes from the Greek word phonê meaning "sound" or "voice". That means relating to spoken language or speech sounds.

    because orange is pulpy and the colour gets distributed amoung the pulp but carrot is not pullpy it does not get distributed

    They usually do run through more than 1 state. But the "interstate" highway system is the name given to the federal program that came up with money to build the roads

    because when you do a research your searching for something new based on facts and published materials. It's not necessarily a "new thing". It's just that, it was left out and was left undiscovered before. That's why scientist research it to find what's being missed.

    "Building" meaning the OBJECT, and "Building" meaning the PROCESS have separate histories. The "ing" suffixes were originally different.

    Cargo is a term used to define anything carried by any type of vehicle, whether it be a car, truck, train, ship or aircraft. Shipment is the act of transporting the cargo, or it can be a small amount of cargo as in that found on delivery trucks. For clarification...shipment=short distance transport...cargo=overseas or long distance transport.

    They're not exactly synonymous. The price of something is the money value one assigns to it. It's worth is it's value, with no reference to how much it can be bought or sold for. So if it is priceless, it means it is so precious a price can not be put on it. If it is worthless, it has no kind of value whatsoever.

  7. It's all part of a vast right-wing conspiracy to make English difficult to learn for speakers of other languages.

    Also things like this give us the perfect excuse to cover up our own stupidity.  When we say something ridiculous, we can claim that it's not our fault -- _we're_ not being illogical, it's just that the _language_ is illogical.

    Sometimes we can even get away with it.
