2005 Trailblazer LS... I hit my uncles tree.... kinda (with the trailblazer...) at about 45 mph.... the only part of my vehicle that hit is the right side view mirror.... it then hit my door mirror and Chevrolet guys tell me that their rough estimate without replacing or fixing my window (which is very cracked) will be as low as $600..... what should I do about that?

  1. They're changing for the door outer skin. It's a 2005 truck. If you want a half a**  repair,  that can be done. A dealer has to fix it back to Chevrolet specs, which believe it or not, is a proper repair. Chances are they take it to an affiliated body shop anyway unless they're a very big dealership. Just get some more estimates from good body shops. You may save a little. If you want to spend hours driving around looking for used doors and getting them painted to match, have fun. Maybe you'll save $200 buck after wasting a month. I personally don't have the time or patience. Maybe you do. Good luck.

  2. get another estimate or fix it yourself

  3. One place you can use to do price checking on car repairs is on Driverside.com - you can drill down to specific cars like the a Trailblazer  They are still in beta but they have a ton of data on what car parts and repairs should cost. I used them for my last repair.

  4. Repairs are expensive, parts and labor. If so inclined, you can shop for the best price on parts and install them yourself. This keeps cost down but often isn't worth the time.

  5. Find an independent shop to do the repair. There is no way it should cost that much to replace a mirror.

  6. parts and labor... not at all!

  7. Never get a car repaired at the dealership.

Check independent body shops, ask them to find used parts.

Many times a part can be found from a car the same color as yours and that will save 80% of the cost of the repair because refinish costs alot.
