Used to coat cakes to prevent crumbles mixing with icing while frosting the cake.

What's a good recipe for simple syrup? Something you have tried and use a lot.

Don't want any sites to go to....done that.

  1. Simple Syrup is only 2 parts sugar, 1 part water. To make mine taste better and have different flavors, I use vanilla, molasses, and mint sometimes.

  2. Simple Syrup --

    INGREDIENTS

    1 cup white sugar

    1 cup water

    DIRECTIONS

In a medium saucepan combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil, stirring, until sugar has dissolved. Allow to cool.

    Brandy Simple Syrup --

    INGREDIENTS

    2 cups water

    1 cup white sugar

    1/2 teaspoon grated lemon zest

    1/4 cup brandy

    DIRECTIONS

In a saucepan, combine water, sugar and lemon zest. Bring mixture to a boil and continue boiling for 5 minutes. Strain into a sealable container, removing the lemon zest. Allow to cool, then cover and store in refrigerator.

When ready to use, mix in brandy. Brush onto cake layers before frosting.

  3. 2 parts sugar with 1 part water.

Bring the water to a boil and dissolve the sugar into the boiling water.

Once the sugar is completely dissolved, remove from heat.

    Cool completely before storing.

I sometimes cook for just a bit longer when I want a thicker syrup.
