1.) The numerator of a fraction is 6 less than its denominator, and the value of the fraction is 3/5.

2.) Tom & Tina set out on their bikes at noon & travel towards each other, meeting at 3:20 pm. Tina's speed is 4 mi/h faster than Tom's speed & their starting point are 50 mi apart.

3.) A grocer mixed cashews & almonds to produce 20kg of mixed nuts worth $7.80/kg. Cashews are worth $7/kg, & almonds are worth $9/kg.

  1. (n - 6) / n = 3 / 5

    5n - 30 = 3n

    2n = 30

    n = 15, so the fraction is 9/15

    50 miles / (m + m+4) mi/hr = 3 1/3 hr

    50 / (2m + 4) = 10/3

    20m + 40 = 150

    20m = 110

    m = 5.5 mph (Tom), m+4 = 9.5 mph (Tina)
