Simple algebra question from a homeschool mom?

a negative divided by a negative is a positive, right? feelin' dumb, but i can't remember the rules for multiplying and dividing negatives and positives. anyone help me out?

  1. Yes, that is the rule.

    And a negative times a negative equals a positive.

    When your multiple or divide negatives by positives it's always a negative too.

    About only time you get a positive is when using "all" positive numbers.

    Are you using a book for your homeschooler?


  2. when u divide a negative with a positive the answer is negative

    similarly, the answer is same when a positive is divided by a negative i.e. negative.

    eg.

    -6/2= - 3

    n

    6/ - 2 = -3

  3. yeah, it's positive. Dont forget though when raising negative numbers by a power that if it looks like this, -(#)^ the answer is always negative but -#^ depends on if the power being raised to is even or odd.
