  1. The virus chest is like a jail cell for virus.

Avast have already sent the virus to jail to neutralise it.

The delete option is for you to kill the virus.

The reason why anti-virus program sent the virus to the chest is because sometime they mistaken good files as viruses -meaning false positive. This give you have a chance to recover the file.

In May 2007, Norton anti-virus mistaken 2 windows system files as viruses and cause millions of computers in China to crash.

  2. When a virus is put into the virus chest your system is already been quarentined or  cleaned.  You have the option to either leave in the chest, or delete.

Either way your system will still be clean until you get the next or same virus again, from where you received the one you have in the virus chest.

  3. See, when you have moved the item to the chest, it has already been removed from the original location into the Avast's Virus Chest. So, if now you click delete, it will be removed from there too, i.e. from your system.
