Simple easy physics question that i can't figure out. help!?

if i have 0 = (10 x J) / 3

i want to find j

so when i put the 3 to the other side of the equals sign will it become 0 x 3 or will it be 3 = 10 x J?

  1. 0 = (10 x J) / 3

    you do NOT "put things on the other side"! That will cause you nothing but mistakes. You multiply or divide or add or subtract the same quantity to both sides of an equation.

    multiply both sides by 3

    3*0 = 3* 10J/3

    0 = 10J

    divide by 10

    0 = J

    .


  2. I'm assuming you mean.....0 = (10J)/3

    yes?

    If so, the only way this can be true is if j = 0.

    ==> (10J)/3 = 0

    ==> 10j = 0

    ==> j = 0

    Understand???

    anything else will give you a number
