  1. Paint - Is a breed of horse, and they most comonly carry the pinto coloring

Pinto - Is the color that people usually call paint

Piebald - Black and White pinto

Skewbald - Any other color and white pinto

and overo, tovero, and tobiano are different pinto coat patterns, in which I am not familiar with the differences. Sorry. But I hope I helped a little with the other terminology :)

  2. Paint: Paint is a breed of horse. A paint horse is a horse that is of the paint breed. A horse without any spots at all can be a paint horse because of his bloodlines. "Paint" can also be a term used to describe a spotted horse of any breed, but that's typically not considered correct these days.

Pinto: Pinto is a color, and a pinto horse can be of any breed. Pinto means large spots of white and another color. Usually any kind of spots can be considered pinto unless they are of a leopard pattern (leopard is like an appaloosa with a ton of small spots everywhere).

Piebald: A black and white spotting pattern

Skewbald: A spotting of white and a color other than black

Tricolored: Spotting of three colors, usually bay and white. Usually tricolored is considered to be part of the skewbald catagory.

Tobiano: Most common type of pinto. Rounded spots and usually catagorized by white legs, and white down the back and base of the tail. Usually there will be more white than dark, but a 50-50 distribution of light to dark is the ideal.

Overo: Rough, sharp spots. Lower legs are usually dark, and white rarely crosses the back, but usually the face is white, sometimes with blue eyes.

Tovero: A mix of tobiano and overo. There are characteristics of both tobiano and overo. An example is blue eyes with a dark head.

    Hope this helps!

  3. paint is the breed

pinto is the coloration of 2 or more colors "painted" together, like spots and patches

skewbald is the pinto coloration of brown or sorrel with white

piebald is the pinto coloration of black with white

overo is a pinto pattern when white is on top of the color, so the color i the main/ base color

tobiano is a pinto pattern when the tobiano gene makes white- haired, pink- skinned patches on the base color. it sorta is as if the color/ white ratio is 50:50.

tovero is a pinto pattern of overo and tobiano characteristics combined.

  4. paint is a breed of horse not just a colour.

pinto is a colour of horse (brown, white and black)

Skewbald is a brown and white horse

Piebald is a black and white horse

Here is a website for those names like overo, medicine hat ect. http://www.equiworld.net/uk/horsecare/Br...

  5. Pinto and Paint are general terms for a horse that is white spots on a base color.  Paint is recognized as the breed (APHA) whereas pinto can be just the color....however, there is a Pinto registry as well.

Piebald is a general term that just means Black and White and Skewbald is any other color and white.  These terms really aren't used much any more.

Overo is a paint pattern where the white originates from under the belly of the horse.  The white doesn't cross the topline of the horse (no white over the back).  The spots are typically rough around the edges, you see a lot of bald faces and socks usually.

Tobiano is a pattern where the white does cross the back, and the splotches are usually smoother on the edges.  You can get patterns like a medicine hat, etc with the Tobianos.

If you go to www.APHA.com (I think thats the paint website), they have diagrams of all the major paint patterns and descriptions.

  6. paint is a breed, pinto i think just means 2 collors and piebald is black and white. sorry not sue on others

  7. okay so paint is a breed of horse. much like a coloured QH although sometimes you have the odd solid paint.

Pinto means any breed apart from paint or appaloosa that has excessive white markings.

Skewbald, is often reffered to as a chestnut pinto and is not a breed but a colour as is piebald, although they are normally dark coloured

Overo, is a Particular marking in the paint breed.

Normally a big whit patch framed by a darker colour

  8. Paint = a breed of horse that is the color of a pinto but is either a quarter horse, thoroughbred, or half and half

Pinto = a color that is big sploches (sry couldn't think of a better word) of either brown and white, black and white, or all three (the shades may vary too)

Skewbald = when the coloring of a pinto is brown and white

Piebald = when the coloring is black and white

Overo = when the head of a pinto is white

Tobiano = when the head is dark (black or brown etc.)

  9. I think Paint is just a breed.

    Pinto is any spotted horse.

Skewbald is a brown and white one.

Piebald is black and white...I think.

And Im not sure about Overo.

I think its just a caramel and white??
