Simple inequality question?

My teacher said that When dividing or multiplying both sides of the fraction, you have to reverse the inequality sign's direction. But, when I had 2 problems together, like 8x>-32 or -6x≤48, i ended up doing it wrong. How is it supposed to work

  1. u only reverse the sign when u multiply or divide by a NEGATIVE number...otherwise u don't change the direction

  2. i know a site that will realy help

    www.freewebs.com/studybunny

    hope it help's.

  3. Hmm, maybe she just meant make it so you can work with the equations with them both being greater than or less than. Like:

    8x > - 32

    and

48 > (or equal to - couldnt find sign) -6x

Now move the variables around so you have the x's on one side and the numbers on the other

  4. you switch it when dividing by a negative. there arent any fractions there anyway

  5. Just solve both inequalities. I think the or is there that its either one or the other. if its "and" x has to fit both inequlities.

  6. nooo. you reverse the sign when you divide or multiply by a NEGATIVE numberr.

    ex... 8x>-32

divide by 8 on both sides(not a negative, dont switch the sign!)

    x>-4

    -6x≤48

divide by -6 on both sides, its negative so you switch the sign.

x>-8 (and that sign should be underlined, i dont know how to do it on the computer)
