An object of 0.5kg mass is pulled by a force F at an angle of 60° from the horizontal. If it encounters a friction of 5N, what is the value of F?

a)2N

b)5N

c)7N

8) 14 N

it has a diagram but i think the question supplied everything needed i suppose.. in the diagram its pulled to the left (if it matters) and the friction is to the right, naturally. and thats about it

  1. The post above is correct.

If the mass is moving with constant velocity (in equilibrium),

The question should be: what is the value of F*cos(60)=5N

    b)

  2. it depends whether the object is being supplied enogh force to move. if it isnt the force would be less than or equal to 10N (5 / cos 60)newtons.

if it is moving which i assume it is it only leaves one option 14N. to get an absolute answer we need to know if it accelerating or moving constantly or stationary.

  3. This question can't be answered without knowing if the object is in equilibrium(accelerating) or if it is even moving.
