  1. hCG is a pregnancy hormone and is actually made by the growing fetus. The level of hCG doubles every 2 -3 days in the first few weeks of pregnancy, but the level does actually plateau. This is normal!!!!

Im sure a dodgy pregnancy test might show up as a negative for hCG. However in saying that, i have heard of women who get negative pregnancy tests all through their pregnancy. Maybe they have low levels of hormones?????

  2. It is a pregnancy hormone that doubles about every other day once the egg implants itself. If you were pregnant, and the baby was fine the only thing I can think of as far as the hpt coming up negative is that you tested too early.

That is a question I can't answer because I would think that if you were 5 months along, the hcg hormone would have to be there and easily detected at that point. If that were me, I would be at the doctors asking for a vaginal ultrasound to make sure the baby is thriving.

  3. Some women never get positive urine tests; they only know they're pregnant from a blood test, so yes this is totally possible. Initially the mother's body makes the hormones, but once the placenta is established, the baby makes most of what it needs.
