  1. "Definitions:

    Advice

“Advice” is any counsel or suggestion that could influence a

player in determining his play, the choice of a club or the

    method of making a stroke.

Information on the Rules, distance or matters of public information, such as the position of hazards or the flagstick on the putting green, is not advice."

    "8-1. Advice

During a stipulated round, a player must not:

    (a) give advice to anyone in the competition playing on the

course other than his partner, or

    (b) ask for advice from anyone other than his partner or

    either of their caddies."

Is this your partner?  Then advice is permitted.

After a hole has been completed, asking what club was used  is not advice, it's history, unless you will be playing that hole again in that round.

  2. If your "teammate" is your partner, you are allowed to talk about this before and after the shot.

  3. If he was your playing partner and you all were playing against two other players, then you all can advise each other at any point.  But if, he was just on your team but not involved in your match, then that is against the rules.  Sounds like this guy was on your team but not in your match.

  4. Ya i have had the same thing called on me in a high school match last year, i ask my friend wat club he hit and i got called for that:( after the shot has been taken and you are proceeding to your next shot you may talk about it.

  5. Rule 8-1 says: During a stipulated round, a player must not: (a) give advice to anyone in the competition playing on the course other than their partner or (b) ask for advice from anyone other than their partner (or either of their caddies).

Asking for, or offering advice that could affect the way a player executes a shot, even if it's false information, is against the Rules unless it comes from a caddie or partner. However, the law-makers have ruled that sharing general information is acceptable. (e.g. 'is that flagstick at the front or back of the green?' is acceptable advice as the pins location is public knowledge.)

Therefore, if you have both taken your shots it can be argued that the previous club selection is now general knowledge and can be discussed.

If you are teammates/partners you can discuss at any time.
