Simplify each expression?

21.) [ 4.2 0.6 ] + [ 5.8 -3.5]

[1.7 9.5 ] [0.2 4.9]

the numbers underneath are also in the same bracket as the top numbers for both questions there is no division sign the question just asks to simplify the expression.

I am assuming that these are matricies.  When you add matricies you add each corresponding element.  I will use parentheses to denote the separate elements.  For example,

[(a) (b)] + [(c) (d)] = [(a + c) (b + d)]

In the first question,

[ (-3) (0)] + [(-4)  (6)] = [(-3 - 4) (0 + 6)] = [(-7) (6)]

[(11) (-5)] + [(-8) (13)] = [(11-8) (-5+13)] = [(3) (8)]

In the second question,

[(4.2) (0.6)] + [(5.8) (-3.5)] = [(4.2 + 5.8) (0.6 - 3.5)] = [(10) (-2.9)]

[(1.7) (9.5)] + [(0.2) ( 4.9)] = [(1.7 + 0.2) (9.5 + 4.9)] = [(1.9) (14.4)]
